Characteristics: Adult body length is 11~21mm, wingspan is 23~39mm.Looks like a wasp.The head is hemispherical, surrounded by orange-yellow scales between the head and chest, and beige scales on the top of the head.The forewings are longitudinally narrow, with ocher scales, and the middle chamber and posterior edge are slightly transparent.The hind wings are transparent and have grayish-brown hairs.The abdomen is cylindrical, black, with 5 orange-yellow rings.Oval, black, with gray-white irregular polygonal carvings.
Main hazard: Domestic quarantine pests.This insect harms the branches and terminal buds of poplar and willow. When the larvae bore through the branches, trunks and terminal buds and invade from the terminal buds, they can penetrate the entire tissue, causing the damaged area to wither and droop, inhibit the growth of the terminal buds, and form bare branches. When they invade the leaf axils, the leaves will wither. In the early stage of invading the branches, they first feed around the trunk and half of the phloem, causing the tissue of the injured area to proliferate to form a tumor-like gall, and then bore into the marrow to form a tunnel. The injured area is easily broken by the wind.
